The Nordic style refers to the artistic design styles of northern European countries such as Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland (mainly referring to interior design and industrial product design). The Nordic style originated from the design styles of Scandinavia. Known as "Scandinavian style". It has the characteristics of simplicity, nature and humanity.
While the Nordic style pays attention to the interests of the general public, there is no lack of care for the minority. For example, to eliminate the inconvenience of people with disabilities in life, to design convenient human design for them, and to achieve social justice. They all reflect the thorough care of people in Scandinavian style design.
The Nordic style originated from the Scandinavian design style, so it is also called "Scandinavian style". Northern Europe is far from the central European countries and has its own unique climate and traditions. In history, Scandinavian design received little attention. Until the end of the 19th century, Scandinavian design was influenced by the British Arts and Crafts Movement and Art Nouveau, and gradually participated in various design movements. In the 1920s, the design theme of public service determined that Nordic style design swept the world. Functionalism shined at the Stockholm Fair in 1930, marking its breakthrough in Scandinavia and its integration with the world. The Nordic style combines the German concept of advocating practical functions with its native traditional craftsmanship. The humane design makes it famous internationally. However, it was widely accepted as a style after an exhibition with the theme of "Design in Scandinavia" in 1950. This exhibition was touring in the United States and Canada from 1954 to 1957. The "Nordic style" began to really receive attention. The typical feature of Scandinavian design is advocating nature and respecting traditional craftsmanship.
The rapid development of the Nordic economy in the middle of the 20th century enabled the Nordic people to have a high-welfare system. However, the Nordic people still attach importance to the practicality of the products, and the simple and natural aesthetics are still passed on. The residential culture and design concepts of Northern Europe are deeply influenced. Therefore, even the Nordic product design in the industrial age still retains the elements of humanistic care that pays attention to the physical and mental health of users. Tradition and fashion innovation are used incisively and vividly by Nordic designers.
